The terms.
In plain sight.
11 short sections. The summary below is for orientation — the sections underneath are the agreement.
01Who we are
ChargeSplit is a product of Conduit Energy (Pty) Ltd, a South African company based in Pretoria. These terms are an agreement between you — the property, body corporate, employer, or individual using the platform — and Conduit. By creating an account or connecting a charger, you accept them.
Questions about anything on this page: info@conduit-energy.com.
02What ChargeSplit is (and isn't)
ChargeSplit is metering and billing software for shared EV chargers. We connect to your chargers over the open OCPP standard, record every charging session, and produce a clean breakdown of who owes what at the property's own electricity tariff.
03Your account
- Keep the information on your account accurate and current.
- Keep your login and charger credentials (Charge Point ID and password) confidential — anyone holding them can connect a device to your account.
- Accounts are activated (“greenlit”) per property during our limited beta. We may decline or stage onboarding while capacity is limited.
04Chargers & hardware
Charging hardware is owned by the body corporate or company — never by Conduit. Any OCPP 1.6-compatible charger can connect, and your chargers remain yours to repoint at another backend at any time. You're responsible for safe, compliant electrical installation by a certified installer.
When you use remote controls in the platform (start, stop, reset, unlock), ChargeSplit relays those commands to your charger as-is. The charger itself remains the authority on what it will and won't do.
05Metering & billing
Sessions are billed from the charger's own meter readings at the tariff your property pays its supplier — VAT inclusive, no hidden margin on energy. The tariffs we apply are published openly in our tariff catalogue and refreshed at every NERSA decision.
06Fees & payments
ChargeSplit charges two fees, both set out in the commercial agreement signed at onboarding:
- A monthly subscription fee for the billing service — the platform, dashboards, statements, and support. R995 per month for body corporates and companies; R95 per month on the individual plan, for owners managing their own chargers through the platform; and
- A usage fee of 12% on energy charged through the platform, calculated on metered consumption at your property's own tariff. Conduit adds no margin on the energy itself — the 12% is the only usage-linked fee.
Driver-side charging costs are postpaid: they're settled through the channel your property chooses — typically the monthly levy or payroll.
07Cancellation
ChargeSplit runs on month-to-month contracts. The body corporate or company can cancel with written notice, effective at the end of the calendar month in which notice is given. Fees and charging costs accrued up to the effective date remain payable.
The final statement — usual tariff breakdown, usual 12% usage fee — goes out on the 1st of the month after cancellation takes effect, and settling it is the last payment you make. Ask before the effective date and we'll include an export of your property's session history.
08Fair use
You agree not to:
- tamper with charger metering, firmware, or the OCPP connection to misreport energy;
- resell access to the platform or use it to bill third parties outside your property or organisation;
- probe, overload, or attempt to bypass the platform's security or rate limits.
We may suspend accounts engaged in any of the above while we investigate.
09Data & privacy
ChargeSplit follows South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA): we collect what the service needs to work — account details, charger telemetry, and charging-session records — and nothing more.
- We never sell personal data.
- Session data is shared only with your property's designated administrators (the people who do the billing).
- You may request a copy or deletion of your personal data at any time via info@conduit-energy.com.
10Availability & liability
We run the platform with care, but charging depends on things outside our control — your charger's hardware, its network signal, and your electricity supply. The service is provided “as is” and we don't guarantee uninterrupted availability.
11The boring-but-important rest
- Termination by us — we may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms. Cancellation by you works as described in Cancellation.
- Changes — we may update these terms as the product evolves. Material changes are announced by email at least 14 days before they take effect; the date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
- Governing law — these terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
- Severability — if any clause is found unenforceable, the rest stand.
